York Elementary School was established in 1911 as a result of William York, a disable Civil War veteran circulating a petition that requested construction of a school. York became a part of the Springfield Public Schools system in 1923.

York Elementary School is a school that is rich in tradition and at the same time celebrates change. While we recognize former student and staff at an annual Spirit Day event and keep those faces from the past proudly displayed, we are always looking toward the future of our students with optimism and enthusiasm.

With the help of a loyal PTA, Caring Communities, and our Partners in Education, we are focusing our efforts on improving achievements in reading and math as well as increasing student attendance and servicing other academic needs of our at-risk population.
